A few months ago Huawei launched its 2016 flagship smartphone Huawei P9 in Nepal. Now, on the verge of the auspicious occasion of Dashian, the company has launched the Huawei P9 Lite. It is the latest iteration of the big brother P9. This new Huawei P9 Lite is in the mid-range price category but it is as premium as its bigger version as it should be. The Huawei P9 Lite price in Nepal is Rs 31,999. For that price, it packs a solid set of hardware.
Huawei P9 was a full-fledged flagship with all the bells and whistles. The price of P9 at launch was also double of P9 Lite at launch. So we are getting the Huawei P9 Lite at almost half the price. This makes it an interesting mid-range phone from the same series. The P9 Lite has very different specifications but it does carry the Kirin chipset, the same front camera, the same battery size, and software experience. So let’s see in detail what the phone packs.

The design, build, and quality of this new smartphone are premium and high. It is built with a metal frame and metal chassis which provides enhanced strength and durability. Huawei P98 lite has a dimension of 146.8 x 72.6 x 7.5 mm and 147g weight. It has a screen at the front with touch navigation buttons just below it then below the screen there is Huawei branding. On the top part, there is the earpiece, front camera, and sensors.
The backside of the phone has a main camera, and LED flash on the top part in a separate margin. Then at the center of the phone’s back, there is a fingerprint sensor at a reachable place. Another Huawei branding is also placed at the bottom of the phone’s backside.

Core Internal Hardware
The chipset of Huawei P9 Lite is company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 650 SoC. This is an octa-core chip that consists of two quad core sets and Mali-T830MP2 GPU. One set is 2.5 GHz and the next set is clocked at 1.8 GHz. Architecture of both core is Cortex A-53. The phone holds 3 GB RAM and 16 GB on-board storage. There is also micro SD cards support up to 128 GB is available to expand the storage. Overall this is a good set of hardware for the price.
For the battery, P9 Lite comes with a 3000 mAh cell. It is of decent size but a bigger one could have been even better. These days big screens are in trend and P9 Lite also has a big screen. On top of that, there is a powerful processor so people can use this for gaming and entertainment. In such a scenario, a big battery helps a lot. In the software part, Huawei has installed Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1.

Extra Features
Huawei P9 Lite is a 4G capable smartphone with dual SIM support and a fingerprint sensor at the back. So this phone is ready for future network upgrades and also ready with biometric security. The P9 Lite also includes NFC, FM Radio, an accelerometer, and a compass. Many good high-end phones don’t have FM and we take it as a downside. A phone should have a basic communication feature that is most important in an emergency.
Display and Camera
The Huawei P9 Lite comes with a 5.2” IPS LCD screen with 1080×1920 resolution and 424 PPI pixel density. In the camera department, we see a change that we didn’t expect when compared to Huawei P9. The company dropped the dual lens in the P9 Lite revision. There is just a single 13 Megapixel Leica camera at the back with f/2.0 aperture. This camera can take high-resolution detailed photos in well-lit conditions.
At the front, there is an 8 MP sensor for capturing wide, bright, and crispy selfie images. The aperture of both front and back cameras is f/2.0 which is standard and allows good entrance of light into the sensor. If we really talk about the camera feature, there is no slow-motion video recording facility this time on the back camera. This is a major thing we miss but it seems that’s the price we have to pay while saving half the amount of cash.

Summary
Huawei P9 Lite is the lesser version of the P9 so there are some trims in many places. There is no Gorilla Glass this time so it is more vulnerable to scratches. The company should have provided protective coating at this price range. However except that, P9 Lite comes with good hardware such as an octa-core processor, 3 GB RAM, an FHD screen, a fingerprint scanner, and standard cameras. So this is a pretty well balanced phone which offers competitive value.
