Samsung Nepal has been launching new budget smartphones in the market. They have been launching many Android smartphones. However, the company has launched a non-Android phone for the first time. Samsung Z2 is a very new type of phone for Nepalese people. After a successful launch in some Asian countries, this giant conglomerate launched the Z2 phone in the Nepalese market. Samsung Z2 runs on Tizen OS instead of Android which makes it special.
Tizen OS is Samsung’s own in-house creation. Android is from Google which is used in the Galaxy line of phones. However, Tizen is not Android based instead it is a Linux-based mobile OS. Samsung is the primary user of this software and they use it on their consumer electronics such as TV. It is new and has a small user base. As there is no Google Play Store, there is Samsung’s own app store instead for downloading apps. It is definitely not as big as the play store, so keep that in mind.
Samsung Z2 has been launched in limited countries including Indonesia, Nepaal and India only. Samsung Z2 price in Nepal is Rs 7,290. This price puts the phone in starting range in smartphone market. It is clear that this is a basic smartphone. It is meant for people who are using feature phone and want to test Samsung’s budget smartphone. Internal Hardware
Specifications and hardware of this brand-new device are set as they should be for its price. On the inside, there is a Spreadtrum SC9830 chipset with a quad-core processor, 8 GB onboard storage, 1 GB RAM, and a 1500 mAh battery. The core hardware components are a good combination for starters mobile at this budget. The specs are enough to run various basic apps. As this is Tizen and not Android, better optimization is expected. However, reality and expectation are different things and a full review is required to validate that.
Samsung is customizing the Tizen software slowly to accommodate its users with the demanded functionality. To make things clear, this is not a Galaxy phone, it is a different species. So it doesn’t have the same features and apps that we get on Android. Thus Samsung is slowly adding apps and features to Tizen OS. Whatever the OS is, it is still Samsung and there are similar features from other Galaxy phones such as S bike, Ultra Power Saving, and Data saving mode.

Cameras and Display
Samsung Z2 comes with a 4 Inch WVGA TFT screen with 480×800 resolution. This four inches of display real estate on budget smartphone is also capable to play videos and provide good entertainment. Internally stored full HD 1080p resolution videos can be played without any problem but YouTube won’t show high resolution options. Still for the price, both size and resolution are sufficient.
In the chapter on cameras, the primary back camera is 5 Megapixels with f/2.2 aperture. This main sensor is able to capture videos up to 1280×720 or HD at 30 fps which is a good thing. The images are crispy and acceptable for printing. Lots of modes have been included with the camera app to provide enough options to users. Now for the front camera, there is just a VGA camera which is the most basic of all and there is nothing to talk about it because there are no expectations.
Summary
Samsung Z2 features all the latest functions such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi Direct, and 4G. As this phone is 4G ready with dual SIM support, it is safe for future network upgrades. 4G is coming soon to Nepal and the Samsung Z2 is fully ready for it. These days new phones are coming with 4G because telecom operators are planning to launch the service soon.
Overall if we see the price and hardware set of Samsung Z2, we get a quad-core processor, a 4″ screen, a decent size or small battery, basic cameras, and 4G support. Hardware or specification wise the device looks good. Software-wise there is a new OS that isn’t much mature like Android. So we recommend it for people who have guts to test a new type of smartphone ecosystem.
