Huawei always launches phones with great cameras and hardware. They also have good software but this time they are doing a bit different. The company just launched the new Huawei Mate 30 Pro in Nepal. This is a flagship smartphone with quad cameras at back and they are uniquely positioned inside a circular cut out. The price of Huawei Mate 30 Pro in Nepal is Rs 1,29,000 and it comes with top of the line features.
A few months back in May 2019, we covered the statement of Huawei on impact due to the USA-China Trade War. At that time, we saw their new phones with Google Services and Apps. We had hope that the newer models would also come with Google Apps. However, Huawei Mate 30 Pro doesn’t have Google Apps. But this flagship phone tries to give you all the best features with their own software system.
This smartphone comes with a waterfall design screen with a notch. The company calls it Horizon Display with Endless Screen. Here the side bezels are almost non-existent and the curves go further which makes it look like bezel-less. The camera of Mate 30 Pro is also very powerful as it has a DxOMark of 121. This is the highest score till now and we are amazed to see how they always ace the photography part.

As we told earlier this is a phone with the highest DxOMark so we need a special explanation for cameras. For now let us focus on processing, memory, storage, and battery. The Mate 30 Pro comes with Kirin 990 chipset which has octa-core CPU. It has a 1.86 GHz quad-core set, 2.09 GHz dual-core and another 2.86 GHz dual-core set. Then there is DaVinci NPU with a combination of big core and tiny core. NPU stands for the Neural network processing unit and it is for AI.
This 7 nm chip has Mali-G76 GPU and it also has GPU Turbo Technology. This is a great feature for gamers and it actually improves performance. In order to dissipate the heat generated from the mobile, Huawei is using thin Graphene film. To see the graphics power, there is a 6.53″ OLED screen with 1176×2400 resolution. This is HDR10 compliant which means it can produce excellent images with great contrast, deep blacks, and bright whites. On top of that, it covers DCI-P3 color gamut so the colors should look amazing.

Battery, Software, and Added Features
All of this powerful hardware is powered by a 4500 mAh battery. And this battery has 40W fast charging and 27W fast wireless charging support. Just like Mate 20 Pro, it also has the reverse wireless charging feature. The 40W fast charging is very intense but useful as well.
In the case of display, we see extreme curves. It looks amazing but the compromise is the loss of physical buttons. But, Huawei has a Side-Touch interaction feature. So, with the help of virtual buttons, the user can control their smartphone. The feedback from the interaction makes it fell like real buttons. However, it is not like real buttons but it is a good experience.
One amazing thing is that Huawei Mate 30 Pro is the first 5G Phone in Nepal. It has support to 8 numbers of 5G bands with the help of 14 dedicated antennas. None of the Nepali telecom operators provide 5G for now but it is pretty amazing to have a device that is future-ready. Huawei also predicts that we might see the initiation of 5G in Nepal. They are one of the biggest telecom equipment supplier so we are taking that as a hint.
Cameras and Software
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro were great phones with powerful cameras. The Mate 30 Pro goes beyond them and breaks their DxOMark score as well. On the front side, there are two cameras. One is 32 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and another is 3D ToF sensor. There is another such Time of Flight sensor at back as well. But the backside is even more interesting.
We get to see two 40 MP sensors and one 8 MP sensors. So in total, there are 4 modules on the rear side. One 40 MP camera is a normal wide-angle with f/1.6 aperture. The next one is an ultrawide angle sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. The 8 Megapixel camera is for telephoto and it has 3x optical zoom. This combination gives great photography and videography power. Users can enjoy 4K 60 fps, 1080p 960 fps and 720p 7680 fps video recording.
This mobile is a camera phone and it is very expensive. So people expect everything but the company is betting on its software. The Mate 30 Pro works with Android 10 and also EMUI 10 but there are no Google Apps and services. Instead, there is Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). There is Huawei’s own store that provides alternates for Google Apps. However, we can always sideload apps and use them.
Impression and Takeaway
Huawei Mate 30 is a very powerful smartphone. It has a fast new generation processor that is capable to do every type of mobile-related task. The screen also looks amazing with the new design. All we want is to get rid of notch now. We think that we might see a fully immersive display and design within a few years. The Mate 30 Pro also has large storage, huge memory, and memory card support. It might be proprietary but at least there is something.
We like the specifications of the camera and reviews from others. Therefore any mobile photography enthusiast, this is a fantastic option. This smartphone also packs big battery, all the sensors, features and also has 5G support. So it is definitely feature-rich. Everything is great except for the fact that there are no Google services. Huawei is investing a lot to make its own OS and software ecosystem. It is improving gradually and should be smooth in the future. This is a fantastically powerful mobile phone and the only question is are you willing to invest $1200. We have to see that in our full review later.
