Huawei P40 Pro is the flagship smartphone of 2020, and it was launched globally in March. The phone is making its way to the Nepali market in October during the festival season. It is a top-tier phone with a heavy price tag. By the way, the P40 packs some serious hardware for the money. It is the successor of the Huawei P30 Pro that was launched last year. Huawei lately launched the Y6s in the budget market before this. They were quite inactive for a while. But they are back with a flagship now. The Huawei P40 price in Nepal is Rs 1,29,990. So let us see what it offers for the price.
As of now, Huawei is still on the entity list of the USA, and it is not able to use Google Play services. Therefore it has its own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). This means the Huawei P40 doesn’t readily have Google services and apps like Gmail. The phone is actually launched in Nepal to show its power and features. This also updates its portfolio and refreshes the market with its new launch. However, launch and availability are limited. The company didn’t announce this model as in previous years.
Still, we are interested in the new smartphone as a technology reviewer. Huawei P40 is one of the most expensive smartphones available in the market. So we have to see the hardware and features it offers for the price. The device actually shows the development and power of Huawei devices. Huawei smartphones are reputed for having good cameras and innovative hardware at the flagship level.

Core Internal Overview
The Huawei P40 Pro is a full-fledged flagship smartphone with top of the line specs. It has a big 6.58″ OLED screen at the front with high resolution. There is a hole punch at the top left, which hosts the dual front cameras. Inside the phone, we get Kirin 990 processor, 8 GB RAM, and 128 GB base storage. There are also 256 and 512 GB models, but in Nepal, we are only getting 128 GB models of P40 Pro. This is a very powerful combination with a fast processor and high-density memory.
The Huawei P40 Pro also has a 5G modem. So, it is ready for the next generation network. There are very few 5G ready phones in Nepal. This includes the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 and the older Huawei Mate30 Pro. We don’t have a 5G network in Nepal, and the expansion will take a long time. But still, having a phone with next-generation capability is a nice thing.
Cameras
Huawei P40 Pro has 6 cameras in total. There are 4 at the back and 2 at the front. This is why Huawei is tagging its P40 series products as “#VisionaryPhotography“. On the backside, there are 4 modules. The first camera is 50 MP at f/1.9 with PDAF and OIS. The second one is a 40 MP ultrawide cine camera. Third camera is a 12 MP telephoto sensor that has periscope construction. This module has Phase detention autofocus, Optical image stabilization, and 5x optical zoom. Finally, the fourth one is Time of Flight sensor for 3D sensing and depth information. This quad camera setup can take photos at 8192×6144 resolution and record videos at 4K 60 fps, 1080p at 960 fps, and 720p at 7680fps.
Similarly, on the front side, there are two cameras inside the hole punch. The primary one is a 32 MP wide-angle camera, and the secondary one is an IR ToF sensor. The ToF module on the front is for depth information for selfies. This selfie camera setup can take photos at 6528×4896 resolution and record 4K videos at 60 fps. This is a good feature for vlog makers and selfie lovers.

Features and Software
The Huawei P40 Pro has infrared face recognition that works with the help of the IR ToF module. For security, there is also an in-display fingerprint scanner. The P40 Pro has a 5G modem, which is for network and data, but it also has support for many GPS systems. This includes the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (NavIC) and Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS). For power, the P40 Pro has a 4200 mAh battery with 40W fast charging and even 27W reverse wireless charging. This phone packs all these features in the IP68 rated body.
Now the main thing comes to software. Huawei P40 Pro uses EMUI 10, which is based on Android 10. It has Huawei’s HMS running instead of Google services. This is the main difference between phones from other companies and phones from Huawei for now. There is no Google Play Store and apps, so there is Huawei AppGallery for app download. It is big in China but not that popular in other parts. This lack of Google services is the biggest issue for Huawei smartphones. Else they would be good options and competition in many countries, including Nepal.
Impressions
Huawei P40 Pro has a compelling set of hardware and good looking design. The front OLED screen at the front with curved edges look beautiful. The inside of the phone also has powerful internals that can power all tasks and games at high settings. Cameras are also very powerful, and we appreciate the 4K video recording on the front side. There are tons of features and perks, but the phone has one major problem, and that is the software. People outside China need Google services, so people don’t adapt to other things easily. Huawei can’t use it on this phone, so currently, P40 Pro is only for enthusiasts and people who will be able to work with HMS.
