The smartphone market is very competitive right now, and companies are launching powerful phones at reasonable prices. Facing similar competition, Samsung also acted last year by launching Lite models. Samsung launched Galaxy Note10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite last year. Similarly, they have launched the Galaxy S20 FE this year. This S20 FE has been launched in Nepal exclusively on the Daraz platform. The price of Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition in Nepal is Rs 69,999 for (8/128 GB Model). Similarly, the price of the 8/256 GB model is Rs 74,999.
Galaxy S and Note series are the top of line flagship segments of Samsung. They are very expensive smartphones and bring the latest features. These top-class premium phones are luxury devices, and not everyone can afford them. Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup was launched at the start of 2020. Now the company has launched the Fan Edition model with few changes. The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition actually brings a lot of flagship-level features at a lower price. As the price is down, the hardware is also a bit trimmed down.
The Galaxy S20 FE is sitting in between the expensive flagship and mid-range phones. This is a very competitive range these days. OnePlus, Apple and Xiaomi have very good offerings at this price segment. This is why Samsung is also putting new phones like this Note model. In a simple overview, we see features like Exynos 990, 120Hz refresh rate, big battery, 4K capable cameras, IP68 rating, reverse wireless charging. These things are flagship features and this is what makes the device interesting. So lets us take a full overview of the device and see why it deserves our attention.

The Galaxy S20 FE comes with a flagship Exynos 990 octa-core processor which we find in the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Note20 Ultra, and even Galaxy Z Fold 2. This means Samsung is using the current most powerful Exynos chip in their hand. There is S20FE 5G as well in the USA and that has Snapdragon 865. We really wanted to see that but this is what we are getting here. However, according to some news, the next Exynos 1000 will be much better than the Snapdragon chip.
In the case of memory, we get 6 and 8 GB RAM option. We are getting the 8 GB model with 128 GB base storage in Nepal. There is another model as well with 256 GB storage. In our view, 128 GB is the best option and we can put an SD card to expand that. The phone also comes with good battery size. We get a 4500 mAh battery with USB Power Delivery 3.0, 25W fast charging, and reverse wireless charging support.
Display and Build
The Galaxy S20 FE is a bit different in terms of screen. There is a 6.5″ Super AMOLED panel with 1080×2400 resolution instead of QHD+. But this is fine and enough. The best thing is that we get a 120 Hz refresh rate which gives an excellent experience. The higher refresh rate gives a smooth feeling while in use. We are hopeful that this will slowly come down to mid-range Samsung smartphones as well. The AMOLED screen is also HDR10+ rated which means we can enjoy HDR content from YouTube, Netflix, and other OTT services.
Samsung Galaxy S20FE has slightly different construction compared to its premium counterparts. There is a metal frame but the plastic back. Some people might say it feels cheaper and not premium. Yes, that is true but it is what the company did to cut the cost. Also, we know most of us put a back cover or case. So the back is covered and it won’t matter much.
Cameras
Samsung has not done any compromise with the camera at this price. The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition has three cameras at the back. First one is 12 MP primary with Dual Pixel autofocus and Optical Image Stabilization. For good photography and videography, OIS is very important and we only see these in flagship phones. Next, we have a 12 MP ultrawide sensor with a 123˚ field of view. The third one is an 8 MP telephoto camera with PDAF, Optical Image Stabilization, and 3x optical zoom. The camera setup can record 4K videos at 60 fps at maximum capacity.
On the front side, we have a 32 MP camera that sits inside the small hole punch. There is gyro-EIS and it can help take a bit stabilized videos. The 32 MP selfie camera can also take 4K 60 fps and 1080p 60 fps videos. This shows that the camera department has a lot of potentials.
Other Features and Impressions
The Galaxy S20 FE is a powerful smartphone with top of a line processor, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, 4500 mAh battery, fast charging, and great cameras. There are pretty nice features like IP68 water and dust resistance, Samsung Pay, 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ screen, UFS 3.1 storage, and One UI 2.5. All this makes the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition a very good phone for the price. It is a good competition for a lot of smartphones in the market including Apple and OnePlus. Samsung should keep on with this lineup where they bring a bit watered-down version of their flagship at a reasonable price. The price, hardware, and features are the sole reason that this phone deserves attention.
