OnePlus Nepal has launched the all-new OnePlus 5 in the market. The phone was introduced in the latest Daraz Kaymu Mobile Week 2017. Everyone has very high expectations of OnePlus phones due to their tagline of “Flagship Killer”. OnePlus is known to give top-level features at mid-range prices. BBK Electronics which is the parent company of Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus is nowadays really pushing through the market. Oppo and Vivo phones are very popular these days. Similarly, OnePlus is also getting lots of attention these days. Actually, One Plus made a big impression since the launch of the OnePlus 1. Its last OnePlus 3 was also very famous and we did spend quite some time with It. We covered the OnePlus 3 India launch too.

Design and Build
The OnePlus 5 has a metal body construction that looks similar to the iPhone 7 Plus from front and back. It has a 154.2 x 74.1 x 7.3 mm dimension and 153g weight. It has rounded corners, a slightly curved backside, and almost no frame, The back works as the frame where the buttons sit at the left and right. OnePlus 5 is one of the best-looking and feeling phones on the market.
The front side of the phone has a big screen with a fingerprint scanner embedded home button, selfie camera, earpiece, and sensors. The backside of the OnePlus 5 has dual cameras at the top, LED flash, antenna bands, and a company logo. The right side of the phone has a power button and SIM card slot while the left side has a volume rocker and alert slider. The bottom of this smartphone has a USB Type C port, speaker grill, and earphone jack.
Core Internal Hardware
People are getting more conscious about specifications, price, and performance these days. So the companies are constantly pushing with the best they can. OnePlus 5 also does similar by packing a lot of powerful hardware. One Plus 5 is featuring the latest Snapdragon 835 processor with Adreno 540 GPU. OnePlus is also raising the bar for memory and storage here. This smartphone comes with either 6/8 GB RAM or 64/128 GB storage. The combination is either 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage or 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Nepal is getting the 6/128 GB variant for now.
We actually used the 8 GB model and found that it has an excellent performance. The multi-tasking is impressive by all the means. Games and applications opened the night before can be found still running in the background the next morning. So memory management is also excellent. In order to power such a system, One Plus has provided a 3300 mAh battery with 20W fast charging. The battery size is acceptable but a bigger one could have been much better.
Display and Cameras
The OnePlus 5 has a 5.5″ Inches” Optic AMOLED screen with 1080×1920 resolution. The screen is amazingly bright, and vivid but 1080p is not what we expected. People expect QHD these days for more crispy images. Also as One Plus has already established it as ‘Flagship Killer’ it naturally comes to mind that the resolution would be QHD. However, 1080p is still sufficient for the screen size of 5.5″. For the front camera, there is a 16 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture that has gyro-EIS and 1080p video recording capacity.
In terms of the camera, there are major improvements. Following the current trend, OnePlus has now implemented dual dual-camera system. At the back, we get a combination of a 16 MP f/1.7 camera and a 20 MP f/2.6 camera. The secondary 20 MP sensor is for depth of field. It is different from Huawei’s monochrome sensor that we saw on Huawei P10 Plus. The f/1.7 aperture on the 16 MP main camera is wide and really for good low-light pictures just like Samsung Galaxy S8. The camera on OnePlus5 can record videos in 4K, slow-motion videos at 720p, and shoot high-resolution images very well
Conclusion
OnePlus 5 is a well-rounded smartphone and we know this phone is special. Such phones are bought by very specific people who know about tech. OnePlus smartphone’s main motto is to provide top-notch flagship features at the lowest price. It was a reality when they dropped their OnePlus 1 in the market. It took the market as wildfire. Now it is different, their price is the same as the flagship phones of other companies.
Feature-wise, OnePlus 5 is one of the brilliant phones on the market. The company is pushing to compete with other manufacturers with the latest camera technology, the fastest processor, tons of RAM, and storage. OnePlus 5 has all these and on top of that, there is fast software too. One Plus uses its own Oxygen OS which is clean and really fast. In this OP5, there is Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Oxygen OS 10.
We appreciate this powerful phone and its good design but the company needs to focus on pricing. OnePlus needs to focus on the old strategy of keeping prices low and giving more. That is their root and origin. Overall OnePlus 5 is one of the most powerful, fluid phones in the market. So it is actually a geat option at its current price tag.
