After a few weeks of launching the Xioami 12 Pro in the market, Mi Nepal has launched the Xiaomi 12. It is the brother of the Pro model and it is one of three phones in the current 12 series of the flagship phones. Xiaomi 12 is very close to the Pro model in terms of specifications. It is also a flagship phone and it has all the bells and whistles for that reputation. Xiaomi 12 has a high refresh rate screen, 8K capable camera, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Mi Nepal launched three flagship phones this year. This includes Xiaomi 12 Pro, Xiaomi 12X, and this one or Xiaomi 12. All these are high-end smartphones with heavy price tags. Design and Build
The Xiaomi 12 is quite similar to the Pro version in terms of build. Both phones have the same design and feature layout. For the beginning, the dimension is 152.7 x 69.9 x 8.2 mm and the weight is 180g. This chassis holds the 6.28″ screen with the earpiece in between the top forehead and frame. The right side of the Xiaomi 12 has the volume rocker and power button, the top side has a speaker grill and IR blaster, and the bottom side has a SIM card tray, speaker grill, and USB port.
The phone has a very good-looking design and a bold camera layout with a massive lens. It also has a dual stereo speaker with two dedicated speakers and one earpiece. The sound is one of the major focuses because it is tuned by Harman/Kardon and there is Dolby Atmos. Being a flagship phone, these are a delight to have. However, we do miss the lack of an SD card support, headphone jack, and IP rating. Such expensive phones should not drop such features.
Internal Hardware: Processor, RAM, Battery
Xiaomi 12 is using the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with Adreno 730 just like the Pro model. This is a good thing because it shows that there is no compromise in the core hardware which really affects performance. For RAM, the phone uses 8 GB LPDDR5 memory in the base variant. The higher model can go up to 12 GB RAM in Xiaomi 12 with 256 GB UFS 3.1. Just like other new Xiaomi phones, the company is using LiquidCool Technology with vapor chamber and graphite sheets.
Xiaomi is leading these days with high-power fast charging. Their mid-range and flagship phones are packing powerful charging systems. Xiaomi 12 has a 4500 mAh battery which has 67W fast charge support. On top of that, there is 50W fast wireless charging and even reverse charging. According to the company’s claim on the website, the phone can charge to full in 39 mins with a 67W charger and in 53 minutes using a 50W wireless charger. Xiaomi is implementing AdaptiveCharge to provide a safe and adaptive rate of charging for new smartphones. One more good thing with new Xiaomi phones is that company is providing a 67W charger inside the retail box.
Display and Cameras
The Xiaomi 12 has a 6.28″ AMOLED screen at the front with Gorilla Glass Victus. This protects the screen from accidental scratches and shatters from drops. The screen of this phone has 1080×2400 resolution and 419 PPI pixel density. The screen has a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 480 Hz touch sampling rate. However, there is no LTPO or variable refresh rate like the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
Xiaomi is also providing a screen with good color and HDR rating. The screen of Xiaomi 12 has a DCI-P3 color gamut, 1100 nits peak brightness, HDR10+ support, Dolby Vision, and DisplayMate A+ rating, and a 360° ambient light sensor. Combining these features with the super-fast processor and stereo speaker, we get a powerful gaming and media-consuming device.
At the top part of the screen, a 32 MP front exists inside a hole punch. It is the same camera found on Xiaomi 12 Pro. It can record 1080p videos at 60 fps and 720p slow-motion. The camera’s pixel count is very good but it would have been better to see 4K video recording at the front as well because competitors are giving that at mid-range these days.
There are three cameras on the backside of the Xiaomi 12. The first one is a 50 MP camera using Sony IMX766 with optical image stabilization. The second one is a 13 MP ultrawide camera with a 123˚ field of view and the third one is a 5 MP Telemacro camera. The Telemacro camera works both as telephoto and macro. It is the first time we have seen such a camera in use.
