Refined Design
Samsung Mobile is now carrying up with the trend of curved display that was introduced with the Galaxy S6 Edge. Just like the Galaxy S7 and Note 5, the new Note 7 has a curved back and front screen. This definitely makes the phone look beautiful and also makes it easier to pick up. It also reduces the size of the phone and helps to provide adjustment for the big screen. Note7 also has a new symmetrical design. It means the phone is equally curved at the back and front so the metal rail is just in the middle of the phone’s side.
Unlike its predecessors, this new phone has a full IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The S Pen and the silo are also waterproof this time. It means the smartphone is safe even if the S pen is outside. The S pen breaking issue due to incorrect or opposite placement by users in Note 5 is also fixed now. Users can’t push the Spen in the opposite direction. So there is no chance of it getting stuck.
Internal Hardware: Processor, Memory
The hardware specifications of the Galaxy Note 7 are similar to the S7 Edge and Note 5 in some cases. The RAM, screen size, and processor are almost equal. Under the hood, there is 4 GB RAM, and 64 GB storage combination working with a powerful processor and GPU. In the USA there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset inside the phone while for the rest of the world there is Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 chipset.
Therefore there are two types of Note 7 available in the global market with different processors. The first one has Snapdragon 820 which consists of a quad-core processor composed of two dual-core processors clocked at 2.15 GHz and 1.6 GHz. Another one consists of Exynos 8890 which is an octa-core processor comprising two quad-core processors clocked at 2.3 GHz and 1.6 GHz.
This is actually the first time in history, that Samsung has made a phone of just 64 GB base memory at maximum. The last year’s Galaxy S6 and Note 5 came in three versions and offered up to 128 GB of internal storage because they had no micro SD card option. However, this year the users can use up to 256 GB of micro SD card.
Display and Camera
This is a Note and it comes with one of the best mobile displays. Actually, the screen size and pixel density are the same as last year but that is also more than enough. Galaxy Note 7 has a 5.7” QHD Super AMOLED display with 518 PPI pixel density. The panel also has a new and amazing feature called “Mobile HDR“. It is being introduced for the first time on Samsung mobile phones.
This feature helps the screen to produce correct and more vibrant images with higher contrast. This also helps to contrast low-lighted objects like shadows and makes other colors shine. It is actually HDR10 and all of these improve the quality of movies and other digital content much further.
In the camera department, it is the same as the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The cameras on those phones are already the best we have ever seen on the market. So in the Note7, there is the same 12-megapixel camera at the back with dual-pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS). These features help to take better, faster photos, and less blurry videos even in low light. On the front, there is a 5 MP camera that can also record up to 2K videos. The back 12 MP camera can actually record 4K videos at 30 fps and 720p slow-motion videos.
Additional Features
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has a 3500 mAh battery which is 500 mAh more and significantly higher than last year’s phone. However, it is 100 mAh lower than the S7 Edge. This reduction may be due to the space consumed by the S Pen holder or silo. The phone also has a new mobile DNIe chip that helps to save and optimize the battery life during HDR video playback.
The most interesting feature of this new flagship phone is the Iris scanner. According to our conversation with the company, it took them 5 years to perfect it, and honestly, it is very impressive. Iris scanner is pretty fast than we expected and the application on security for the phones, apps, and financial transactions is huge. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is also one of the first phones of the company to feature a USB Type-C port. The company is also giving an adapter for backward compatibility with a USB cable.
As the USB is different, there is a newly redesigned Gear VR headset with USB Type-C support and backward compatibility. It means it can support all the previously supported phones and upcoming smartphones as well.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Price in Nepal, Launch, and Conclusion
Samsung has removed the IR blaster and they are still sticking with the hybrid SIM even in dual SIM models. I personally like the IR blaster and having two SIM slots plus a separate SD card slot. The hybrid design blocks the flexibility of having all three which is important for heavy users like us bloggers. Besides all of that, the phone is still a hit in the market. The specifications and features are great. Its design is fabulous and speaks for itself plus its hardware is one of the best in the market.
The launch price of the Note 7 in the USA is $769.99 for a 32 GB unlocked version. Samsung Nepal is going to launch the phone soon in the market with an official event. Even though the device is not launched, the Nepali grey market has been flooded with unofficial models imported from other countries. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 price in Nepal for the grey market model is about Rs 1,30,000. This is a highly inflated rate and it is better to hold off the purchase. It is better to buy from the official outlet when the device is launched.
