Samsung Nepal launched its two new flagship smartphones, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge today at Hyatt Regency Kathmandu. The Samsung Galaxy S7 price in Nepal is Rs 77,900. It is the normal model with a flat screen but a curved back. Then we have the more beautiful and expensive model which is the S7 Edge. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge price in Nepal is NRs 88,900 and it is the most expensive phone from the company right now. Both these phones will be available for purchase in retail stores from 18th March. We experienced both of these devices during launch and these are our impressions.
The unveiling of these phones at CES 2016 was brilliant and these phones showed a lot of promise. Both of these covered all the weak points of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge from last year. Samsung fixed all the problems, added features that people wanted, and made it the probably best phone of this year. Just as usual with every year’s Samsung flagship, both S7 and S7 Edge have the best display, best camera, and top performance to date.

Unlike last year, this time the new models have small but important changes in the build and design. In terms of size or features, Galaxy S7 Edge is the bigger model with a 5.5″ screen while the normal Galaxy S7 is the smaller model with 5.1 inches screen. The internal specs are similar for both phones but the outer build is slightly different. This time the normal version or S7 also has a curved back, unlike the older S6. In addition to the curved back, the edge model has a curved front screen. The bodies are slimmer with small camera protrusions which is great. Now let us take a deep dive into these phones.

Variants and Internal Hardware Differences
In the case of both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, there are two options for combinations of different parts. The internal specs actually depend upon which model you pick or where you live. There are two graphics cards, two chipsets, and two processor types. One variant has an Exynos chipset while another has a Snapdragon chipset.
The phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon has a quad-core processor while the model with Exynos has an octa-core processor. Similarly, there is Adreno GPU in Qualcomm and Mali GPU in Exynos. The combination of hardware with the normal S7 and S7 Edge models will result in various editions of products. In the case of Nepal, there is only a 32 GB version with the Exynos processor.
Some countries will be getting versions with different configurations so there may not be all the options everywhere. Now for the most important part of the processor, we have a quad-core Qualcomm chip which consists of two dual-core sets. One is clocked at 1.6 GHz and another is clocked at 2.15 GHz. The next model comes with an octa-core Exynos processor that has a 1.6 GHz and another 2.6 GHz quad-cores sets. Snapdragon 820 edition and Samsung’s own Exynos edition will have a slight performance difference but that won’t matter much.

Memory and Storage
Both Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 have the same 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. In the case of storage. there are different options in the market. For example, there is 32 GB and 64 GB option. In the case of Nepal, there is only a 32 GB model.
This time Samsung brought back the option of external SD card support. The company removed that in Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6. Both Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge support external SD cards up to 200 GB. Therefore users can store a lot of songs, videos, movies, and files in vast amounts and without worrying about security. As these phones support 4K recording which makes large files, users don’t need to worry if they have a big SD card. Moreover, both phones are IP68 rated so, even though it has a removable SIM card and SD card tray, it is waterproof. There are rubber seals for protection all around.

Powerful Camera with Dual Pixel Autofocus
This time, the camera’s pixel count is reduced from 16 MP to 12 MP. The Galaxy S6 lineup had a 16 MP camera but the S7 lineup has a 12 MP camera. But we should never judge a book by its cover because this one is actually better. There is a common misconception about megapixels and quality. Galaxy S6 and Note 5 have very good cameras with OIS and good aperture sizes, but we have a much better camera this time.
The new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have a 12 MP camera at back with an f/1.7 aperture. There is a new dual-pixel autofocus camera which is far better than old cameras. The camera focuses on objects and faces swiftly and without losing many details. The sensor has better and larger pixels for better autofocus and low light situations. As big pixels take up more space we get fewer pixels. However at last, we get better quality photos.
The f/1.7 is a wide aperture that helps capture great photos in low-light situations. We tested the phone and the shutter was very fast with amazing autofocus. The pictures didn’t lose many details and the shutter was very quick. UHD or 4K video recording is also great because unlike previous phones the heating problem was resolved. During our experience with Gear VR the S6 shut down due to heating but S7 kept going on. The front camera on these new phones is still a 5 MP sensor but it is more improved than the previous one. It can now record videos in 2560×1440 at 30 fps.
Features and Comparison
The main differences between S7 and S7 Edge phones are design and some internal hardware. Galaxy S7 Edge has an edge display and special functions like apps edge, people’s edge, and an improved bigger battery. The screen looks amazing and mesmerizing due to Edge as well. The battery in the normal Galaxy S7 is 3000 mAh while the S7 Edge version has a 3600 mAh battery. The battery is very important for everyone and if you want everything then the bigger Edge is the best option.
For features, obviously, there is a fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, and 15W fast charging. The phone also has an IP68 rating now. It is now water and dust resistant to a certain level. This is a great thing because Galaxy S5 was somewhat water-resistant but Galaxy S6 wasn’t. There are other features like NFC, Samsung Pay support, 4G, and dual video call support as well.
