Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge launched a few weeks ago and I have been using them since launch. I have been using both the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 for about a month as a daily driver to know the real experience of the device. Both of these are flagship phones and they have some of the best features available in the market. Till now, I have tested a lot of devices and none of the phones have ever stood up to these two phones. So let me explain some of the best reasons why you should buy the Samsung Galaxy S7 or the S7 Edge.
Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge design were among the most groundbreaking designs. The curved front screen, metal side rails, and glass back were some of the boldest design choices by the company. People also loved the redesign and astonishing look. So this year, Samsung has taken the best features of the S6 lineup and polished it to make a better S7 lineup. Truth be told, Samsung will have to come up with something really new to raise the bar because have already raised it quite high. Now let us start by explaining all the reasons why you should buy a new Galaxy S7.

1) Design and Build
Whatever people tell, it is an absolute truth that beauty matters. So Samsung has not left any stone unturned and made the Galaxy S7 lineup one of the most beautiful-looking phones. The new curved back on both phones helps the phone to fit right in hand. The curved back also helps to pick up the phone easily from any surface like a desk. Gorilla Glass on both front and back sides with metal side rails give a premium-looking design.
Galaxy S7 Edge with dual curved front glass screen and curved back glass looks outstanding. It is such an attention catcher that almost everyone asks about the name of the phone. The buttons are in the perfect place and they feel really clicky. The home button works as a fingerprint scanner and in our test both S7 models lead the iPhone in speed and accuracy.
Moreover, it is all not just looks and design because both new S7 models have an IP68 rating. This means the devices are water and dust-resistant up to 1.5m for 30 mins.
2) Processing Power and Speed
Samsung has two variants of both the Galaxy S7 Edge and the normal Galaxy S7. First, there is the Snapdragon 820 version that comes to the USA and then there is the Exynos 8890 variant that comes to the rest of the world. So we also got our hands on the Exynos variant of both phones. So we did benchmark tests on both devices and as they have the same processing hardware, we got the same results.
The results in Geekbench 3 and AnTuTu benchmark clearly indicate both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are the most powerful devices in the market. They have very high scores to prove that. These two phones aced on benchmarks of all sectors including multi-core, single-core, graphics, and memory. All the results are down below in the benchmark result screenshot. These new phones are really remarkable and they feature pretty high improvements over both Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6.
3) Storage
Last year Samsung made a big change by removing SD card support on Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge+, and this year they again made a change by adding SD card support back. This year the S7 series phones have two options for internal storage which are 32 GB and 64 GB. Most countries are getting a 32 GB variant which seems less compared to the older S6 storage options. The 64 GB variant is very hard to get as it is shipped to only selected countries.
This time there is smaller internal storage because the S7 Edge and S7 are again supporting memory cards. The maximum memory card support is up to 200 GB. This is really cool because people can now keep huge files, record big 4K videos and enjoy all their contents without worrying about storage and spending high for big storage models. 200 GB is a lot and even 128 GB is a lot. So if you really want to go all out you can have 264 GB (200+64) storage. However, in my view, 32 GB internal and 64 GB memory card is enough for most users.
4) Camera
The camera is the most interesting part of both Galaxy S7 models. This is because there are many huge changes. At first, both new S7 phones have a 12 MP sensor whereas the S6 models had a 16 MP sensor. Actually, the pixel count has dropped because Samsung is using larger pixels instead of more pixels. By the way, this has few benefits.
The new 12 MP sensor is slightly larger in size and has bigger pixels. So as individual pixels are large, less number of them can fit in a sensor. That is why there is 12 MP instead of 16 MP. This implementation allows individual pixels on sensors to gather more light to provide better low-light photos and better focus.
The new phones also have a reduced camera bump which means there is less disturbance. The new S7 camera also uses a wide-angle lens with an f/1.7 aperture which is very wide compared to the f/1.9 of the S6. Most importantly there is now dual pixel autofocus which is usually found in DSLR cameras and it makes the camera very bright. It is a big improvement in camera and it can be said that the new camera is far better than the 16 MP camera of older phones
The camera supports 4K UHD video recording, slow motion, optical image stabilization (OIS), and better color science. All of this gives better videos and a truly exciting experience with the phone and cinematography. Both Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have the best camera in any smartphone right now and we would definitely choose it over any normal points and shoots.
5) Display
Samsung is popular all over the world in the mobile phone industry for having the best screen technology. The company uses SuperAMOLED screens for its flagship and they have the best color, darkest black, highest brightness, and crazy sharpness. So the Samsung Galaxy S7 has a 5.1″ SAMOLED panel with 1440×2560 resolution which makes for 577 PPI pixel density. Similarly, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a 5.5″ SAMOLED panel with 1440×2560 resolution which makes for 534 PPI pixel density.

These Quad HD Super AMOLED display with high pixel density ensures that users get to enjoy the best picture quality for their content. Watching movies, playing videos, and YouTube videos look amazing on the big and pixel-rich screens. Most importantly the colors look punchy and vibrant. The Ultra HD or 4K videos recorded and played on the S7 Edge gave a fantastic experience due to the immersion provided by the curve panel. The playback and details due to both camera and screen were fabulous. HD Games like NFS and Grand theft Auto also looked crispy and gave a great experience.
6) Software and Features
The Galaxy S7 family comes with the latest Android Marshmallow OS and the latest TouchWiz UI which gives the fastest user experience (UX) to date. It is very refined than previous Touchwiz versions. The icons are new, there are new downloadable themes and there is more customization. The camera opens with just a double click of the home button and everything is very responsive.
All the apps during multitasking also work exceptionally well. The theme store provides better customization and it is guaranteed by the company that users will get all the best updates including the next OS update. The phone also has many special features such as the Edge screen on S7 Edge which comes with multiple features such as People’s edge, Apps Edge, and more. It makes accessing apps and features easy. Then there is a very new feature known as Always On Display (AOD) which causes the screen to remain always on and show important or selected information. There is also fast charging which is pretty helpful for topping up the battery fast.

7) Future Proof
Both S7 and S7 Edge have an octa-core processor, 4 GB RAM, plenty of storage, and a big battery. There is refined software and fast hardware to power through any type of app or game. There are next-gen technologies, Gear VR support, 4G support, strong design, and long-term software guarantee that make these new phones future-proof. With all the fancy features like edge panel features, AOD, Samsung Pay, and NFC it is quite sure that this phone has a lot to offer. All this power and feature set makes sure that you will use and love your phone even in the upcoming years.
Final Thoughts
These are the 7 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge according to my experience. To be honest, this is the most beautiful, powerful, and well-crafted phone I have ever used. Samsung has truly made marvelous phones and most especially the S7 Edge is the best phone in all aspects. It has great design, powerful hardware, special features, and a charm that makes users admire the beauty.
In my review, there is one thing I noticed and that is heating when using intensive applications. This is a thing that Samsung must look after. Finally, these phones didn’t disappoint and they fulfilled all the expectations anyone can have from a flagship. So both phones are a recommended buy. For the price, Galaxy S7 costs $790 and the Galaxy S7 Edge costs $890. So pick the one that suits your budget and where your carrier gives you a great deal.
