Samsung Nepal started 2018 with new Galaxy A8 Plus. This is a high end level phone in a mid range series. Samsung is now featuring their signature design in mid range phones as well. Galaxy A8+ is mid range phone per company’s lineup but in reality it is trimmed down flagship phone with premium build. Currently at launch official price of Galaxy A8 Plus in Nepal is Rs 59,990. This is pretty expensive phone but is also a powerful beast.
New 2018 Galaxy A8+ features new design we saw in Note 8 and Galaxy S8. The fingerprint sensor is at bottom of camera as per people’s demand. Samsung listened to users and we are very happy about it. At top there is beautiful 6 inches 1080×2220 Super AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The back is also glass which covers the 3500 mAh battery.
Samsung is sticking with its 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Galaxy A8+ is running on Exynos 7885 chipset with octa core processor. One is 2.2 GHz dual core and next is 1.6 GHz hexa core set. It gives better power management and better battery efficiency. We are getting 6 GB RAM model in Nepal with 64 GB internal storage.
As usual, users can install memory card up to 256 GB. Galaxy A8 Plus is a Selfie focused camera from Samsung. They are also targeting youth with this phone. This is shown by dual front camera on this phone. Back side features single 16 MP f/1.7 camera and fingerprint scanner. While front side has dual camera setup which includes one 16 MP and another 8 MP f/1.9 shooters. They both can only record videos up to 1080p resolution.
Due to wider aperture of back camera, pictures and videos come out great, sharp, saturated and vivid as usual with Samsung camera. We love their wide f/1.7 aperture because it is bright and sharp. They also have this sensor in lower end models too. Front camera has dual camera so selfie lovers will get pretty good photos with blur background and wider coverage.
Features and Impression
Samsung is shipping new Galaxy A8+ with almost all sensors like barometer, gyrosensor, compass except OHR sensor. It has new Bluetooth 5 and Fast Charging support as well. The front cameras have Live Focus feature for better background blur effect or selective focus. Just like previous A series phone IP68 certification lives here as well.
For all the VR lovers, Samsung is making it compatible with their Gear VR as well. Galaxy A8 Plus has some popular competition in market but company is demanding a premium as always. We like the build quality and hardware but we would like to point of no 4K support in back camera. That feature could have made it a full on flagship. The camera is great at low light and focusing as well. We admire the advancement of A series and wish to see better in upcoming days.
