Samsung is updating its M and A series of smartphones these days. They are launching new models with the letter “S” attached at last. Same way the company has launched Samsung Galaxy A50s in Nepal. It is the successor of the previous A50 and it comes with few changes. The major upgrade is in the camera. It now comes with 48 Megapixel main camera at back and is capable of recording in 4K 30 fps videos. It is good to see that mid-range phones with Samsung are getting UHD record support. The Samsung Galaxy A50s price in Nepal is Rs 42,190 for 6 GB RAM model with 128 GB storage.
The company launched Galaxy M30s in Nepal just a few days ago followed by new A10s. Both Nepali and Indian markets are getting new handsets in very close time intervals. This is very good but there are some price differences. However, talking about the new A50s we see few changes in hardware. There is a new processor and new set of cameras on both sides. Mainly only these things are changing so be very careful while making the decision.

If we compare this mobile with older model A50, we see that there are very few differences. However, there is a huge upgrade in terms of camera pixel count. Both front and rear cameras have been upgraded. The processor is slightly new with Exynos 9611. This 8 core chip has s 2.3 GHz and 1.7 GHz quad-core chip sets and it comes with a Mali G72 MP3 GPU on the inside. There are two models of this phone. One version comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage while the next one comes with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Currently, at launch, Samsung Nepal is only providing an expensive 6 GB model.
The battery is the same at 4000 mAh and there is the same fast charge rating. Things become interesting in cameras. The front side of Galaxy A50s now has a 32 Megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture while the previous A50 only has 25 MP one. The new sensor should definitely bring more detailed high-resolution images compared to old ones.
At the backside, there is a new 48 Megapixel wide sensor with f/2.0 aperture. Then there are 8 megapixels ultrawide and 5-megapixel telephoto camera at f/2.2 aperture. The new 48 MP camera brings higher resolution images, night mode feature and super steady video to the table. As the f/2.0 aperture is smaller than f/1.7 on the previous one, Samsung is compensating this with night mode. We like the fact that now Galaxy A50s also supports 2160p (4K) video recording. However, there are neither slow-motion nor 1080p 60 fps.
Upgrades, Features, and Impressions
If we compare both Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A50 side by side, we don’t find many differences. The iterative processor update is very small and it doesn’t affect performance by much. However, users will find difference in performance in 4 GB and 6 GB RAM models. We appreciate the camera upgrade and especially the 48 MP jump with 4K support, night mode and super steady feature. These are great to have and make sense. But the pricing makes it hard for us to recommend.
The price of new A50s is very high at the time of publishing the article. The price of A50s is Rs 42,190 for the 6 GB model but the 4 GB model of Galaxy A50 is just Rs 29,490. This is a huge price delta and it makes a lot of difference. We know that we are comparing smartphones of two different generations and different memory but as we don’t have a 4 GB model in the market, we have to do this. Even if we have lower memory option Galaxy A50 seems more reasonable purchase. 25 MP back and selfie camera is sufficient for almost everyone and other hardware is also equally powerful.
In our view buying 4 GB variants of Galaxy A50 makes more sense. But if you really want 6 GB memory and better features go for Galaxy A70. That phone is also very amazing. Samsung should have waited a little bit more before rushing a new model to the market. The updates are very few except for the camera. We like the camera upgrade but due to pricing and better deal with the predecessor, we only have a choice to recommend the predecessor A50 as it provides the best value.
