Samsung Galaxy A30s and A20s launched in Nepal: Mixed Reactions

Samsung Galaxy A30s and A20s

Galaxy A30 and A20s render models

In our latest talk with Samsung, we were notified about the launches of these phones. Now, these are finally here in the market. Samsung Galaxy A30s and Galaxy A20s are now available in the Nepali market for purchase. These are meant to be the successors but they are getting mixed reactions. Many reviewers are calling these two phones boring and somewhat overpriced. Well, lets first see the specifications of both of these smartphones and decide according to price and predecessor Galaxy handsets.

Samsung Galaxy A30s Specs and Details

  • Display: 6.4 Inches Super AMOLED Screen
    • Resolution: 720×1560
    • Protection: Gorilla Glass 3
  • SoC: Exynos 7904 (Octa-Core)
    • CPU Details: 1.8 GHz Cortex-A73 Dual-Core and 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 Hexacore sets
    • GPU: Mali-G71 MP2
  • Memory: 3/4 GB RAM
  • Storage: 32/64/128 GB eMMC 5.1 Internal, 512 GB (Max External Support)
  • Battery: 4000 mAh Lithium Polymer
    • Fast Charging Rate: 15W
  • Back Camera: 3 Modules
    • 25 Megapixel with f/1.7 aperture (Wide)
    • 8 Megapixel at f/2.2 (Ultrawide)
    • 5 Megapixel at f/2.2 (Depth)
  • Front Camera: 16 Megapixel with f/2.0 aperture
  • OS: Android 10 (One UI 2.0)
  • Connectivity: USB Type-C, 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Sensors: Optical Fingerprint Scanner, Compass, Gyrosensor

In the Nepali market, Samsung has launched the model with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. This can be taken as the best model available. The price of Samsung Galaxy A30s in Nepal is Rs 31,890. This is huge because in comparison to older A30, the screen resolution is less and the only upgrade is tiple camera at back. We know that there is 128 GB space but people who purchase at this range use SD card and even 64 GB is enough for most users.

In the new successor, there is a new 25 Megapixel main sensor and the ultrawide is now 8 Megapixel. The additional one is 5 Megapixel depth-sensing camera. This is a good upgrade. But for us, it is not a worthy upgrade. And for the price difference, it is better to get older Galaxy A30. The price difference between the Nepali and Indian models is small but this indicates the pricing has been wrong from the origin. Next time, we hope they fix such issues and offer better options.

Samsung Galaxy A20s Specs and Details

  • Display: 6.5 Inches TFT LCD Screen
    • Resolution: 720X1560
  • SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 450
    • CPU Details: 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 Octa-core set
    • GPU: Adreno 506
  • Memory: 3/4 GB RAM
  • Storage: 32/64 GB eMMC 5.1 Internal, 512 GB (Max External Support)
  • Battery: 4000 mAh Lithium Polymer
    • Fast Charging Rate: 15W
  • Back Camera: 3 Modules
    • 13 Megapixel with f/1.8 aperture (Main Wide)
    • 8 Megapixel at f/2.2 (Ultrawide)
    • 5 Megapixel at f/2.2 (Depth)
  • Front Camera: 8 Megapixel with f/2.0 aperture
  • OS: Android 10 (One UI 2.0)
  • Connectivity: USB Type-C, 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Sensors: Rear-Mounted Fingerprint Scanner, Compass, Gyrosensor

Ditching the tradition of the AMOLED screen, Samsung Galaxy A20s has IPS LCD panel. We consider this as huge downgrade because the older A20 has Super AMOLED. The quality of LCD and OLED are distinct by a huge margin. Next, we have 1.4 GHz 8 cores Snapdragon 450 SoC. The older variant has an Exynos 7884 chip which is quite powerful. Both are octa-core sets and have the same memory and storage.

Front cameras on both predecessor and successor are same at 8 MP and with the same aperture. Just like A30s the new Galaxy A20s also has an improvement in back cameras. There is a triple camera setup at the rear side with 13 MP wide main camera, with f/1.8 aperture, 8 MP ultrawide sensor and 5 MP depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture. In comparison to the older model, ultrawide is now more powerful at 8 MP from 5 MP while the new addition is the depth-sensing module. Except for these things everything is the same and there are no changes. The price of Samsung Galaxy A20s in Nepal is Rs 20,690 for 32 GB model and the price of 64 GB model is Rs 23,990.

Impressions and Takeaway

Well, Samsung is doing good by refreshing their phones twice a year in order to give good specs and features to users. We take it as a good decision because it helps users. But these iterations should not be made in a hurry. The general public expects upgrades and positive changes in the new models when they are investing more money. Just like in the case of A30s, people are paying more the return value and feature is very less making it not a good choice. Rather it makes sense in investing in older models of Samsung.

Similarly, in the case of Galaxy A20s, there is a new triple camera setup which is really good but the company has taken its crown part of the screen. This again puts the dilemma in users as they have to think about priorities and this can distract buyers from making a purchase. It the A20s would have had an AMOLED screen and a new camera together and came at the price same as older A20, this could have changed everything. However here we are with Samsung Galaxy A30s and A20s in the market. In our advice, if you want better value of your money, we still suggest older A series phones but if you really want 3 cameras then go with new ones.
