Entry-level phones are special because companies have to really show what they can give for the least amount of money and also satisfy the basic demand. A phone should be affordable but also should have the performance to support basic apps and tasks. Vivo Nepal has also debuted a new budget phone in the market for that segment. The Vivo Y01 is a budget series smartphone with Android 11 (Go edition) and basic hardware. The company also launched Vivo V23 5G and Vivo Y33s in the market together in Y01.
When I started using a smartphone, it was an entry-level device with very basic hardware. But it has been a long and the scenario has changed a lot. Nowadays companies offer a lot more at lower prices. Vivo Y01 is also in the same space so let us see what it has got to offer. Design and Build
The Vivo Y01 has a simple rectangular shape with rounded corners and a plastic body. It has a 164 x 75.2 x 8.3 mm dimension and 178g weight. The front side of Y01 has a 6.51″ screen with a waterdrop notch at the top. The earpiece is at the top above notch in between the frame and forehead bezel. On the right side of the phone, there is the volume rocker and power button, then at the top, there is a SIM card tray and at the bottom, there is a micro USB port, speaker grill, and headphone jack. On the back, there is Vivo branding and a camera island containing an LED flash and an 8 MP camera.
The specification sheet says that fingerprint scanner is available only in selected regions. So we looked at the rendered image that was sent to us and we really couldn’t confirm if the power button is flat and has a scanner or not.
Internal Hardware: Processor, RAM, Battery
Vivo is using the Helio P35 chipset on the Y01 with 2 GB base RAM and 32 GB storage. It is a basic entry-level processor and it does the job for this device. In terms of performance, this is the normal hardware that we expect. On top of hardware, Vivo Y01 also considers software so it uses the Android Go edition. However, there is Funtouch OS on top of the Android Go which may bog down performance a bit. The Go version is actually lighter and runs faster on low-power hardware. Talking of power, there is a 5000 mAh battery with 10W charging.
Display and Cameras
Vivo Y01 has a 6.51″ IPS LCD screen with HD+ 720×1600 resolution. The company is calling this a Halo Full View display. It comes with Eye Protection Mode and has an 83 % screen-to-body ratio. The top of the screen has a waterdrop notch with a 5 MP selfie camera. This selfie camera is for Face Wake and normal video calling.
On the backside of Y01, there is an 8 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture which can shoot 1080p videos. The camera app supports features like Face Beauty, Photo, Video, and Time-Lapse for the rear camera. It is decent camera power but some older phones from competitors have a slightly more powerful camera than this.
