Xiaomi Redmi 5 has now hit the Nepali market this March 2018. This phone came in December last year. Mi Nepal is now launching their products frequently in market. This is keeping their inventory and portfolio updated. Redmi 5 is a upper entry level budget phone with competitive specs. The price of Xiaomi Redmi 5 in Nepal is Rs 17,499 for 2 GB and Rs 19,999 for 3 GB model.
Specs
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 comes with 5.7” IPS LCD screen with 720×1440 resolution. Clearly this is also a 18:9 aspect ratio display. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass on top. In memory section, there are two options. One model comes with 2 GB RAM and next has 3 GB RAM. Both of these options are available in Nepali market.
The 2 GB model has 16 GB storage and 3 GB variant has 32 GB storage. Comparing the price, storage and memory the bigger one is better deal. Over the Chip side, Snapdragon 450 is powering the phone with 1.8 GHz octa core processor. Redmi 5 supports SD card up-to 128 GB at max. It also packs 3300 mAh battery behind aluminium back.
In camera section, there is 12 MP f/2.2 camera at back and 5 MP camera at front. Both of these sensors can record 1080p videos. The back camera can take high-res photos at HDR with different modes as well. For front camera, it is good enough for decent selfies and 5 MP is what we get at this price point these days.
Impressions
For a budget range phone, Xiaomi Redmi 5 packs a lot of sensors. We are happy to see inclusion of Fast Charging and Gorilla Glass as well. It runs on Android Nougat with MIUI 9.1 for now. The phone also has Dual SIM support which is a must in Nepal. There is not much to talk about except the fact that it is a well balanced phone. The screen looks nice and the internal hardware is decent. Our only recommendation is that you should opt for 3 GB model because extra bit memory and storage will count in future and long run.
