Samsung Nepal launched the new E-Series in the market with a statement saying “The Galaxy Grand has evolved to Galaxy E“. There are actually two models in the series for now. Samsung Galaxy E7 is the bigger one and Galaxy E5 is the smaller one. We can now take these new phones as the new replacement of previous Grand models. Samsung Galaxy E7 is a big mid-range smartphone with a large screen, decent processor, latest features, powerful camera, and bigger battery. We have used the Samsung Galaxy E7 for quite some time and we want to share our experience with everyone.
The E series from Samsung is a new lineup that has mid-range phones with plastic bodies, metallic frames, and solid internals. This E series lineup is the value offering for the mid-range segment while the A series is the premium offering for the mid-range segment. In the same way, Samsung Galaxy E7 has a plastic body and metallic frame but it does have an interesting set of hardware. There is a big screen, a big battery, and decent hardware which gives it plenty of power to make it an entertainment media house.

Design and Build
Samsung Galaxy E7 has a big curvy plastic body with rounded corners and metallic sides. The phone has a dimension of 151.3 x 77.2 mm and 7.3 mm in thickness. It is a big phone with a 5.5″ screen but the weight is just 141 grams. On the front side of the E7, there is an earpiece, Samsung branding, screen, home button, and touch navigation buttons. Similarly, on the backside, there is company branding, a camera, and the main speaker. On the left side of the phone, there is the volume rocker and on the right side, there is the power button. The design of E7 is very similar to E5 and the differences come in screen size and battery.
Core Internals
The Samsung Galaxy E7 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset. It is a quad-core processor with a 1.2 GHz frequency. This processor is found in many devices anywhere from Galaxy A5 to Galaxy Core Prime. Snapdragon 410 is quite capable and decent SoC. However, the company is using this on many of its phones and there is no distinction in the processor for mid-range and entry-level. In the E7, the processor is paired with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. There is also maximum support for an external SD card up to 64 GB.
Well talking of power, the battery is 2950 mAh which is perfect in this case because the big screen requires more juice. This is actually a very big battery in comparison with other phones in the market. Moreover, the software on the phone has features such as Ultra Power saving mode. It lets the user use a few apps and turns the screen greyscale to save power. Generally, after full charge, E7 shows an estimated backup time of up to 9.4 days in Ultra Power saving mode.
Samsung Galaxy E7 has the new TouchWiz UI with Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. It can now be upgraded to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop which gives it a fresh new look and feel. The OS is upgradable and with that, the UI also changes a bit. Samsung is simplifying its design by reducing clutter and improving navigation.
Display and Camera
Samsung Galaxy E7 has a big 5.5″ Super AMOLED screen with 720×1280 HD resolution. This gives a 72% screen-to-body ratio which looks good and provides a pleasant experience. The 720p resolution on the big screen is nice but it is not that sharp for a 5.5″. If we see the case of the Galaxy A7, it also has a 5.5″ AMOLED panel but a resolution of 1080×1920 and which looks very sharp. However, we understand that E7 is a budget-oriented phone while A7 is for the premium mid-range. By the way, Samsung Galaxy E7 has Gorilla Glass 4 protection which is very absolutely fantastic.
Above the screen, there is a 5 MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture. This camera can take high-resolution photos and 1080p FHD video at 30 frames per second. The best thing about the front camera is the 120-degrees selfie that includes palm gestures. This allows the user to take Selfies just by waving their palm. Pictures are taken after 2-3 seconds of waving. Beauty face detection is another useful feature on the front camera for youth including a very special night mode.
The rear side of the Galaxy E7 has a 13 Megapixel camera with an f/2.1 aperture. There is Autofocus to take good pictures and there is also touch to focus. The back camera of the E7 can take pictures at a maximum resolution of 4128×3096 and videos at 1920×1080 resolution. There are modes available in the software such as Panorama, HDR, Night, Animated Gif, and Continuous shot. The phone’s software offers a “Studio” feature for editing photos and creating improved results.
Impressions
Galaxy E7 is a giant phone with a big footprint, large battery, big display, and fast quad-core processor in a tight body. It has a new design with a non-removable back and thin construction. It is trying to provide a premium-built feel at lower pricing. The processor and RAM combination is actually good for a phone at this price. Samsung has also placed the best display technology but the resolution is a bit low. Still, it is a corner that has been cut but we can accept that for the price.
Samsung is also using the best mid-range camera hardware in the E7 with new features. The final result of the photos and videos from both cameras are also very nice. Galaxy E7 is a great option in this price category if you love watching movies on mobile, taking great pictures, and selfies. In the market, the Samsung Galaxy E7 price in Nepal is Rs 32,500 ($310). The price is closer to the Galaxy A3, but the Galaxy E7 gives far better value for money in our view. The Galaxy E5 is another inexpensive choice to have as well. Overall we liked this device and recommend it to our readers if they are planning to buy a new phone.
