Ncell which is one of the biggest mobile network or telecom companies in Nepal has started a mobile TV pack service. This new service is the result of collaboration between Ncell and NITV Streamz Pvt. Ltd. Ncell already has many exciting packages and services to offer but now they have even exciting TV packs to offer. This adds a new dimension of information and entertainment for mobile users. By the way, Nepal Telecom (NTC) 3G users had mobile TV service for a long time.
NTC still has mobile TV service but it is only available for postpaid users. On the other hand, Ncell’s mobile TV pack plan is for prepaid users. Most of the telecom users use prepaid plans so targeting prepaid users makes more sense. The prepaid service is popular because it helps people to control their consumption and expenses. Prepaid customers may be price conscious but they surely pay for addon service which gives them value.

Ncell was recently re-branded a few months ago because it became a part of Axiata. The company is also upgrading its services at this time. So the addition of new services like mobile TV pack is expected. These types of services add value to companies portfolio of services. In this Ncell Mobile TV Pack, people can watch TV using the Net TV mobile app. Net TV is already providing IPTV service in partnership with big ISPs such as Worldlink and Vianet. Unlike NTC’s limited service, Net TV has a wide range of channels and excellent service. People can watch TV using the “NetT TV Nepal” app. It can be easily downloaded via Google Play Store. We also have a prior experience with this app and in our view, it is a pretty nice and simple app.
Plans and Rates
Currently, there are few packages for all Ncell consumers. If we see the rate, it is almost Rs 1/min. Looking at the packages we can see that the price tends to drop as duration increases. So longer duration packages are economical if you want to watch for longer hours.
Mobile TV Pack is actually meant for mobile use which means while traveling. This means it is supposed to be for mobile data users. However Net TV app can play TV programs and movies using WiFi as well. As mobile data is expensive in Nepal, we suppose most people are going to use TV service while on home WiFi.
In order to enjoy Ncell mobile TV pack, customers need to create an account to use the Net TV app. People should pay money to Net TV to watch premium content and channels. The introducing tariff for the Ncell TV pack is as follows.
Package Duration | Price |
30 Minutes | Rs 35 |
60 Minutes | Rs 60 |
1200 Minutes | Rs 100 |
180 Minutes | Rs 150 |
Ncell has given a huge challenge to other telecoms such as Nepal Telecom. They have also shown a bigger opportunity to the market. IPTV is blooming in Nepal these days so ISPs like Wordlink, Vianet, Subishu, etc are already providing VoD and IPTV services.
Mobile TV can be quite useful for many people who are on the go. This type of scheme will certainly get lots of customers during the festival and game season. People residing, working out, or in travel can watch their favorite shows, matches, and news on the go. For example, you are traveling to an outer district and you want to watch a cricket match, and have no TV. Then you can purchase a TV pack and enjoy the match.
