Samsung Galaxy J8 is a new mid range phone phone in J series. It is a new 2018 addition to lineup because there was no J8 before this year. This phone sits above the old Galaxy J7 smartphone. Samsung is refreshing every series and they are also planning to bring new R and P series phones. The Galaxy J8 2018 has a big screen, mid range hardware and interesting features. The official Samsung Galaxy J8 price in Nepal is Rs 33,490.
The Galaxy J8 is top smartphone of J series or family for now. It comes with a very big 6″ 720×1480 SAMOLED display. It is a tall aspect ratio screen with less bezels and no notch. Samsung is now offering new model phones with taller screen, new design and less bezels. It runs with Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SOC with 1.6 GHz octa core processor. Also the phone pairs with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage.
The back side is simple with a fingerprint scanner below the dual camera setup. Below the back there is a 3500 mAh battery. It is good size battery for such big display. In the main camera section we get 16 MP f/1.7 and 5 MP f/1.9 sensors. We like the fact that company is using f/1.7 wider aperture these days. This gives the camera ability to have better low light photos. Also the resolution is high so users can get well detailed photos and good portrait as well with dual cameras.
At the front we just get a 16 MP f/1.9 camera. There is no dual camera at front but the pixel count is very high and should give crispy photos. In India the phone is advertised with tagline “To Infinity and More” which seems like dialogue from cartoon “Buzz Lightyear”. There is Face Unlock feature and Front facing LED as well. The Galaxy J8 is running with Android Oreo out of the box.
Impressions
Being a normal Samsung mid range smartphone, it does carry the signature AMOLED screen. The screen is big, vibrant and the specs are good for mid level loads plus work. It can be a good companion for media consumption due to its big screen. Pictures should also come nice because there are high resolution cameras at both sides.
Still there are few sensors lacking and even in phone of such price, we still don’t have UHD recording. Gyrosensor and Fast charging are also missing which is quite disappointing. These small features also make huge impact for keen eyes and we hope the company keeps them in next revision. Many of the user comments in our Facebook shows disappointment with the processor.
