Many smartphone consumers are moving towards mid-range and flagship these days. We are seeing a trend of the price increase and consumer spending capacity. It is good for customers, the company, and the economy. Similarly, the price of smartphone technology is also getting cheaper. People are getting good at less price. We can also say that better phones are getting cheaper. These days the budget segment is also getting better. Well. Huawei just launched its new Huawei Y6s and let’s look if is it any better for its price.
Huawei has lots of phones in the Y series and this is a new addition to the lineup. There is also a Huawei Y6 that launched last year in 2019. It can be taken as a successor of that mobile phone. This new Y6s launched in January of 2020. This phone has a mix-match of hardware and brings lots of things to the table to discuss. It has a big tall screen, an octa-core processor and a standard single camera. This smartphone comes with all the basic things to be alive and working
I have been reviewing the phone since 2012. I have used to purchase budget end phones and I still do. But the sheer improvement in hardware amazes me. But the current saturation is also getting very apparent. However, Huawei has tried to offer a new taste and refreshes to its customers.
Huawei Y6s Specifications and features
- Screen: 6.09″ IPS LCD Panel with 720×1560 resolution
- Chipset: 8 Core Helio P35 with PowerVR GE8320 GPU

- Battery: 3020 mAh

- Back Camera: 13 Megapixel with f/1.8 aperture
These specs seem very standard for a smartphone in 2020. Huawei Y6s has a 6.09 inches IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720×1560. This is HD+ and it is kind of expected in budget range entry-level phone. Inside, we get a Mediatek MT6765 SoC with 8 core processor. This Helio P35 octa-core set has two quad-core sets. One set is 2.3 GHz and the next is 1.8 GHz. For the memory, it comes paired with 3 GB RAM. And for storage, there is 64 GB inbuilt with 512 GB SD card support.

There is one special feature and it is called Extendable Read-Only File System. The company claims that it helps to speed up the random read speed and also saves space. This is also found in Honor smartphones. The EROFS helps to improve read speed by 20% and save space by around 2 GB. It is quite an interesting technology and should provide a bit better experience during use. Talking about the power, it has a 3020 mAh lithium polymer battery. Huawei Y6s has a big screen and 8 core processors, for that it is a bit smaller. We expect a smaller battery life. But the company says, it has AI power-saving technology which gives it a longer life.
Camera, Features, and Impression
Things are very interesting for the camera part here. These days every phone has at least two cameras at the backside for the main camera. However, in the case of Huawei Y6s, we only see a single 13 MP shooter with f/1.8 aperture. On the front side, there is an 8 MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture.
The aperture of the main 13 MP camera is quite wide so it can take better low light photos though. Both cameras can shoot videos in 1920×1080 resolution. This is good but people these days expect dual and triple cameras even on budget phones. We know that even a single camera can take great photos with good image processing but we also have to look for market demand and trends.
In terms of software, the phone is running on Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.1. If we look at the phone’s hardware, it seems to have an indifferent combination. The processor is 12 nm 8 core chip and works with 3 GB RAM. This gives it an edge over the other 2 GB models. The screen is also big and has 90% screen to body ratio. It means it is good in quality and also good to look at. In terms of battery and camera, it is lagging a bit behind. It would be better if the company improves these few shortcomings in the next update to make it compete better with others.
