Samsung Galaxy M40 is finally here in the Nepali market. This is a mid range phone with new Infinity O display. This is a special display because it has a hole punch just like on Galaxy S10 but on the other side. It is one of the M series phones and it has different traits but there are some very special things. Its most noticeable thing is the screen. Samsung Galaxy M40 Price in Nepal is Rs 36,190. The Galaxy M20 and M10 are pretty popular phones in the budget segment. M40 is here for the mid-range market. Currently, the company is only launching the 128 GB model with 6 GB RAM. This amount of memory and storage is most appropriate for the time being. It also has a very good looking screen with no notch and lezz bezels.
However, this phone is not continuing the trend set by lower end M series phones and that is a big battery. Also, there is no headphone jack so it can be a deal breaker. By the way, Samsung is packing USB Type C Headphone with the box. The phone supports 4K recording which we like. Galaxy A50 is very close to its price and becomes its closest competition. So our impression consists of comparison.

There is a good mid-range octa-core Snapdragon processor in this phone. This processor is accompanied by 4 or 6 GB RAM. Likewise, storage options are also different. There is a hybrid SIM card tray and it is one thing many people want Samsung to fix. People want to use two SIM cards and one SD card in Nepal, India and most Asian countries. We hope to see support for all three in the future.
The Galaxy M40 uses LCD screen at HD+ resolution but has Gorilla Glass protection which is very good. If we compare the battery size to other competing Samsung phone it is smaller. 4000 mAh battery like there is on Galaxy A50 could have been nicer. We can’t say much about the battery life because it depends upon software and optimization as well. The front camera is 16 MP and supports 1080p videos recording. This sensor has enough pixels for high-resolution selfie and videos.
The rear camera set is impressive because it has triple cameras set. The main sensor is 32 MP with f/1.7 aperture. Then there is 8 MP ultrawide sensor with 123 degrees field of view. At last, there is a 5 MP depth sensor. This set can record 4K videos at 30 fps and even 240 fps Slow motion videos. It is good to see that the company has implemented USB Type C and installed all the necessary sensors. We appreciate that Samsung has listened and done a good job in sensor parts these days.
Impressions
In the paper, Galaxy M40 looks pretty good phone with good design. But we have to analyze some details first. It used Snapdragon 675 chipset with is a good processor. The combination of 6 GB RAM makes more sense to use than 4 GB because there is Galaxy A50 which is very near to performance and feature. Next is M40 uses a big LCD screen and not AMOLED so if you want the best display we would suggest A series mobiles. For raw performance and gaming, the top end M40 can be a good choice though.
Samsung did one big compromise and that is removing the headphone jack. It may be a market test but many people like their 3.5mm port where they can plug their good headsets. The rear camera is the best part of the Galaxy M40 as it has a wide angle lens, UHD recording, and other good features. They could have made it a very good phone by just having a bigger battery, not dropping IO and using AMOLED.
Still, this is a good option if you want a Samsung phone with new trendy design, fast processor, new software and good cameras. However, if you really want good performance with 6 GB RAM, we recommend Galaxy A70. If your budget is at the same level of $350 and wants a wholesome package with everything at balance Galaxy A50 is another great option.
