While smartphone companies are competing on slim design and look, Gionee on the other hand took a huge win over others using the battery game. For many smartphone users like us, the battery is a very important part. Almost all mobile phone users suffer the problem of low battery life. And this is why people carry power banks all over the world. This problem surely benefited the power bank manufacturers but dried the pockets of normal users. Design and Build
Gionee Marathon M5 has a big metal body that encloses the big battery. On the front side of the phone, there is a 5.5″ screen with navigation touch buttons at the bottom and a camera plus earpiece at the top. Then on the side rails, there is a volume rocker button on the right side, a 3.5mm headphone jack and IR blaster on top, and a USB port at the bottom.
At the backside, there is a camera, Gionee branding, and a mic. The battery is non-removable so the back is also sealed. The battery is the main thing in this phone and Gionee did their best in maintaining the thickness considering that. We have to admit that 8.5 mm is not bad at all for mobile with such a large battery.
Internal Hardware: Processor, RAM, Storage
In terms of core hardware, there is the MediaTek MT6735 chipset with a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor. The RAM is 3 GB and the storage is 32 GB. A maximum of 128 GB SD card is also supported by Gionee Marathon M5. Therefore people who hoard digital files can store lots of videos, movies, and songs. This combination of 3 GB RAM and the quad-core processor is a good one for the price. This is a phone focusing on battery life so it is understandable that there is a low-power quad-core chip.
Gionee Marathon M5 available in Nepal is a dual 3G SIM model. There are also two separate trays for dual SIM and SD cards on the left and right sides of the smartphone. The modems of the phone give it superior networkability for 3G reception as well. For software, the Marathon M5 is running Android 5.1 Lollipop with Amigo 3 UI over top. Some like the overlay UI while some prefer the stock theme.

At the back of the phone, there is a 13 MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture that can record 1080p videos and take high-resolution photos. This is a very common combination of back and front cameras that are found in all mid-range smartphones these days.
Battery Details, Usage Scenario, and Impressions
Gionee Marathon M5 has a gigantic battery and average quad-core processor so the work performance and gaming aspect are in the medium range. The low-core processor can help save a lot of battery power and provide for battery life to users. Other things like listening to music or watching videos will also be satisfying as well due to the AMOLED screen. Users could also enjoy web browsing, watching videos, and listening to music for a very long time because of the longer battery life. The battery will surely be the last thing that will bother you with this phone. It can easily go for 2 days with almost all types of usage.
Marathon M5 phone is serving this amount of battery power with best in class technology by pairing two cells. Each one is 3010 mAh and that makes a total of (3010*2=6020) mAh. This also makes it a bit safer and easier to replace. Moreover, the phone uses dedicated charging chips for individual cells so this adds better safety. On top of safer battery use, one of the best features of the Gionee Marathon M5 is reverse charging. This means this phone can charge other phones using a USB cable. Basically, it is a power bank for others.
The battery part of the Gionee Marathon M5 is very solid and the hardware also looks good. The processor and RAM combination is quite normal and standard. Cameras are also to the market standard and overall it is an attractive package. So, if you are a heavy media consumer who wants a big battery, screen, and constant entertainment with power then it is a good option.
