Vivo Nepal launched a very exciting and exclusive phone in the Nepali market. This is the Vivo S1 and it is a mid-range smartphone with pretty interesting hardware. The phone just came in April in China and it has made its way here. This smartphone has a giant halo full view display with a small notch. It has triple cameras at back and an enormous battery. All this hardware comes at a price of less than thirty-five thousand. The Vivo S1 price in Nepal is Rs 34,690 and it falls in a very competitive zone. It competes with popular models of Samsung, Oppo, Huawei, and Xiaomi.
There are many versions of the Vivo S1 actually. The first one came for China and that is exclusive. After that, there is an S1 Pro and then finally there is this international version that we are getting here. There are differences between the Chinese version and version we get in Nepal. There are differences in design, hardware, features, sensors and many other specifications. So we want to make it clear that it is just the S1.
Nepal is one of the first countries to get this new smartphone. The specs are very interesting and the most interesting parts are the camera, battery, and sensors. Its price puts it under the Rs 35,000 price tag and it is a very competitive segment right now. Many people buying mid range phone hover around here. This is why the company is targetting same customers.

For the chipset and platform, Vivo is using Mediatek with octa core processor. This MT6768 chip has 1.7 GHz hexa core set and 2 GHz dual core set. The memory and storage are also plenty with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The battery is very interesting because the Vivo S1 has 4500 mAh battery. This is a very good size for a phone with such hardware and screen size. Many competitors don’t offer such a battery. In addition to the battery, there is 18W fast charging support as well. This can definitely help to fill the juice faster.
The camera section is also very amazing at back. There is a 16-megapixel main wide sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. It works with an 8-megapixel ultrawide module with f/2.2 aperture and 5-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The back camera setup can record 4K videos in 30 fps. There are many software features in the camera on both sides.
Features, Offers, and Impressions
The Vivo S1 has many software tweaks for the cameras. There are a lot of options and touch-ups. AI power is highly utilized for this part. There are features like portrait mode panorama, video face beauty, AI face beauty, portrait framing, selfie lighting and many more. The front camera also has one mode that beautifies photo and also adds bokeh effect at the same time. This shows the focus of Vivo on camera and the use of AI in it.
We like the fact that the S1 has in-display fingerprint scanner with this AMOLED screen. The company claims that the unlock time is just 0.42 seconds. There are other good things like a headphone jack, Bluetooth 5 and fast charging. Even we are amazed that we have to say headphone jack is a feature. We still don’t want manufacturers to remove them. So kudos to Vivo here.
In Nepal, Vivo is offering 30 days screen replacement offer. This means if you break your screen within 30 days after purchase you can qualify for a free replacement. The replacement is available only till 2019, August 31st. It is a very small time frame but at least they are giving something.
In our view, Vivo S1 is a good phone with a pretty powerful 8 core processor, plenty of memory and storage. It is a very good looking display with high resolution and it also has a very good set of cameras. The best parts are a large battery, fast charging and sensor selection. We feel that this phone is more targetted towards youth who loves pictures and selfies. So this is a good option for young people who take lots of selfies, surf the internet and consume media on their phone.
